I recently decided to take a long overdue vacation to the beach. Normally whenever I travel I like to pack my days to the fullest with workouts, sightseeing, the best recommended restaurants that the locals hang out in; the list goes on. This time it was different.

 I teach my patients the importance of self-care, mindfulness, meditation and being in the moment. So I decided to take my own advice. I turned off my phone, I did meditation and yoga on the beach while the sun rose. I sat on my deck, overlooking the marsh, and read while enjoying my coffee. I spent the evenings on that deck enjoying the most breathtaking sunsets. During the day I allowed myself to lay on the couch and watch the most delicious movies. I also allowed myself to nap. I did all of this without guilt. It was one of the best vacations I have ever had.

I came home completely refreshed. I came home with more of an appreciation for nature. Most of all I realized that it is alright to slow down to a halt and breathe.
